Hello!  So, you want to learn more about using ScribeIt.  As you will read here, using it is very, very easy!

If you are used to the iPhone’s user interface, then you won’t have difficulties using ScribeIt for iPhone. Here, we share with you some tips to use ScribeIt for iPhone.

There are three major things that you can do with ScribeIt.

  1. Add Text
  2. Add Background
  3. Save or Publish Work

You may also want to change the view of your work.

  1. Control view to zoom in or out
  2. Zoom to original size

Adding Text

The main feature of ScribeIt is to be able to add text to a picture or any background. When you open the app, simply tap the A icon to proceed to the text screen. In the text screen, you can type the text and change font (color, style, size, and opacity).

There are also other things that you can do with the text.  Choose one of the following to learn more:

Changing Background

You can change the background by tapping on the Backgrounds icon at the task bar. You may choose to get your background from the Photo Library, from taking a new photo using the Camera, or by using a solid colored background, wherein you will be taken to the Colors view. This background is your workspace for adding your Typography. Currently, the background is set to 800x600 pixels for landscape photos and 600x800 pixels for portrait photos (depending on the orientation of your iPhone when you take the picture). The default size for solid colored background is 800x600 (landscape).

Save or publish work:

There are currently four options to save or publish your ScribeIt work.

  1. Save. This option will save your work to your iPhone’s Photo Library. It is wise to save your work to the Photo Library so that you have a backup of your work once you plan to create a New project.
  2. Email. This option will automatically attach your ScribeIt work (.jpeg) to a blank mail that you can send to anybody else or to your self through email.
  3. Publish to Tumblr. If you have a Tumblr account, a simple blog host where Typography and photos with texts are popular, you may automatically upload your ScribeIt work without going to a separate app. Just set your User Settings under settings. You can also add additional caption text and tags when uploading to Tumblr.
  4. Publish to TwitPic. If you have a Twitter account, you may upload your ScribeIt work to TwitPic and add a 160-character text (including the TwitPic link) for Twitter.

To change your User Settings for both Tumblr and Twitter, go to the Settings screen and edit the Username and Password. Don’t worry, we encrypt your passwords for safety. ^^

Customize Text:

Once you add or edit text, you will be brought to the text screen. Here, you can type text, edit the text, choose the font type, resize the text, change the color of the text and its opacity. The opacity (Alpha) adjusts the visibility of your text. When it is reduced to zero, the text becomes invisible. This is cool to use when you want to add some subtle text on an image. You can see a preview of your text at the gray area above the Add button.

Double tap to edit text:

If you want to edit text that has already been added to an image or background, simply double tap on the text and you will be brought to the text screen. In this screen, you can once again customize the text and its attributes: font type, color, opacity, and size.

Tap Edit if you are done with the customization. Or, you can tap Cancel to go back to the ScribeIt main view without doing any changes.

Touch and drag to move text:

In order to move texts around on your image or background, simply touch on any part of that certain text then drag to the desired location. You can do this as many times as you want, even after you have already saved your work. Just don’t remove your work from the ScribeIt workspace or main view (i.e., by tapping on New button) and you can continue to work on the same ScribeIt project even when the app is closed and reopened.

Change Color:

When you customize text, you can change the font color by choosing from an entire palette of colors shown in the Colors view. You can choose first the main color from the upper palette and drag the arrows in the lower palette to determine the shade of that color you chose. You can also simply tap on one of the five saved colors you recently used. You can see the current color that you are choosing from the “What color am I?” text on the upper left part of the screen.

The same Colors view is used to choose the color of the solid background.

Pinch to zoom in and out:

To see the general view of your work, you can pinch to zoom out the view. You can also pinch to zoom in. You can do all customizations in any view of your work. It is easier to move a text though if your view in zoomed in. This feature is useful for those who want to create their typography with precision.

Double tap outside to zoom to original size:

To see the original size of your work, double tap anywhere on the background (not touching any text) and your view will automatically either zoom in or zoom out to the image’s original size.

That’s it! Very simple, isn’t it? :)
